Huon Valley and Hartz Mountain.

Hi all, we have been staying at Port Huon. Our camp is on the Huon River which is very calm but fast flowing tanin stained water. Rain has persisted for the last 3 days but today was better weather, so we headed out exploring.
Spent most of the day at Tahune Airwalk. Garry started by doing a hang gliding trip across the forest and Houn rapids. He found it
a lovely view but a bit lame.
The Airwalk was fantastic. It is a 600 meter long bridge about 40 meters high that enables you to walk through the forest canopy.
The rain forest was amazing. Very tall myrtles, leatherwood, blackwood, stringy bark and huon pines. The forest floor was lovely too, with lots of varieties of moss, ferns, treeferns, colourful fungus and the massive trunks. We also went on 2 swinging bridges across the rivers that were part of a circuit walk.
We explored the forest for about 6 hours then went up the Hartz mountain and walked around the Alpine plants and saw a lovely waterfall. On the way home Garry filled one of our 20 litre
water bottles from a road side waterfall.

It's raining.

Hi we are still in Derby. It started raining a couple of days ago and forgot to stop. We were camped on a flowing whitewater river bank. The van was about 4 meters above the river level. The river level has been increasing gradually for a few days, resulting in the bridge in town being eroded at the base so out of action.
Last night we moved the van to higher ground after a tree near us came down into the river.
Garry and I would like to move on to St Helens but all of the roads that side of derby are currently closed due to flood damage. We could head back towards Launceston but would prefer not to go back tracking.
So we are waiting it out. It is still drizzling but the weather seems to be settling down.
The roads to the national park at Mt William are also out. So we will probably stay at St Helen and do a day trip once the rivers have settled down and roads opened again. Bye for now X X
